Post Christmas Workout
After more than a few days of eating too much food with too little nutritional value and not doing any exercise, this evening I did my first workout in far too long.
I’ve not got to the gym recently due to work commitments, so I’ve been working out at home when I can but it’s been nothing anywhere like as much as I would normally. I’ve been trying to keep the diet in check but, well you know how it is…
So this evening I dusted off an old favourite that I knew would have me heaving relatively quickly.
It’s just two exercises. The double handed kettlebell swing and the squat thrust.
You perform 10 reps of each exercise back to back, then 9, then 8 and so on until you get down to 1 rep. Try and perform with as little rest as possible and just rest when you need to.
These types of pyramid exercises are always challenging for me and a great way to get an effective workout in a short space of time with little or no equipment.
I finished off with 3 sets of dumbbell shoulder press and bicep curls, both at 15 reps, making sure to concentrate on both phases of the lift, not rushing and keeping good form.
To say I was blowing afterwards is an understatement, I did however feel good afterwards. As much I indulged a little of the last week or so I hate the feeling of being sluggish, bloated and generally pretty fat!
There’s something great about pushing yourself during a workout, it’s hard but you keep going. The mind gives up before the body does.
I’ve got until the new year off from work so I intend to make the most of it and get some more workouts in.
